What exactly are tenterhooks, Factenstein? I have been hearing the phrase for years and know the general meaning but am clueless as to what it actually means.

"It comes from one of the processes of making woollen cloth. After it had been woven, the cloth still contained oil from the fleece, mixed with dirt. It was cleaned in a fulling mill, but then it had to be dried carefully or it would shrink and crease. So the lengths of wet cloth were stretched on wooden frames, and left out in the open for some time. This allowed them to dry and straightened their weave. These frames were the tenters, and the tenter hooks were the metal hooks used to fix the cloth to the frame."

I tell small "Google is your friend"; she used that line on me last week.

Though funnily enough I actually knew the answer, I just needed someone to put it into words for me..They used to use Teasels to brush out the wool as well (teasels being the very spiky seed heads of a plant)

I looked up "hex" ( not being computer-savvy) and saw that it is some 16-base thing as opposed to a binary system...involved letters and numbers and who knows what else? Maybe voodoo dolls??? Smiles to all Cyberkooks!

That lost hex malarky and trying to be too clever lost me a point in a "quiz" the other week.

There was a dingbat round and the clue was "pot00000000" and I went for Pot Black (Pot + hex for nothing i.e. black).

WRONG

In order to get things back in order I'm going to have to calculate the scores by hand for brainoffs which have been completed already.

I'll post in each brainoff forum where I've made calculations and announce the result. If you spot any mistakes, please let me know and I'll put them right.

I needed a time out this month everyone. Maureen was unable to play, Schotzy was out of town so Lucy, Shortbread and I kept the faith and struggled through, even winning two matches. I will have to get used to the Kevvie going monthly because it takes me awhile to get my creativity flowing to produce a theme and get ready. I am glad the lights, camera and action were missed by those who appreciate what our team does in the Kevvie. We will be back. Maybe not every month with a new extravaganza but at least every other month.

I take full responsiblity for Maureen's absence. I forgot to check early enough with her to find out she could not play and get a sub for her. It was my fault we were short handed and I promise we will be at full strength next time. Maureen is and always will be part of our team as will Lucy and Schotzy. Thanks Short bread for coming in to help and hope we can partner with you again.

a couple of minor alterations required when the table is finished due to a few not being able to play the challenges (as in the system went wrong). Unlikely to alter final positions.

Sounds like the likely explanation but I can't find where a mistake has crept in.

This is the list I made of results at the time:

Autumn - 1 Win, 3 Losses
Queencats - 2 Wins, 6 Losses
Last - 1 Win, 5 Losses
Angels - 3 Win, 3 Losses
Girls - 5 Wins, 1 Loss
Four - 3 Wins, 4 Loss
Army - 2 Wins, 3 Loss
Liberals - 5 Wins, 2 Loss
Mariners - 6 Wins, 1 Loss
Profs - 3 Wins, 3 Loss

It's based on the following individual results:

77378 - Mariners beat Autumn
77379 - Liberals beat Mariners
77380 - Liberals beat Army
77381 - Army beat Four
77382 - Girls beat Four
77383 - Girls beat Angels
77384 - Angels beat Last
77385 - Last beat Queencats
77386 - Profs beat Queencats
77387 - Autumn beat Profs
77388 - Liberals beat Autumn
77389 - Mariners beat Army
77390 - Liberals beat Four
77391 - Girls beat Army
77392 - Four beat Angels
77393 - Girls beat Last
77394 - Angels beat Queencats
77395 - Profs beat Last
77396 - Queencats beat Autumn
77397 - Mariners beat Profs
77398 - Autumn vs Army
77399 - Mariners beat Four
77400 - Liberals beat Girls
77401 - Army beat Angels
77402 - Four beat Last
77403 - Girls beat Queencats
77404 - Angels beat Profs
77405 - Last vs Autumn
77406 - Mariners beat Queencats
77407 - Profs beat Liberals
77426 - Autumn vs Four
77427 - Mariners vs Girls
77428 - Liberals vs Angels
77429 - Army vs Last
77430 - Four beat Queencats
77431 - Girls vs Profs
77432 - Angels vs Autumn
77433 - Mariners beat Last
77434 - Queencats beat Liberals
77435 - Profs vs Army
77436 - Autumn vs Girls
77437 - Mariners vs Angels
77438 - Liberals vs Last
77439 - Army vs Queencats
77440 - Four vs Profs
77441 - Girls vs Autumn
77442 - Angels vs Mariners
77443 - Last vs Liberals
77444 - Queencats vs Army
77445 - Profs vs Four
77463 - Autumn vs Angels
77464 - Mariners vs Last
77465 - Liberals vs Queencats
77466 - Army vs Profs
77467 - Four vs Autumn
77468 - Girls vs Mariners
77469 - Angels vs Liberals
77470 - Last vs Army
77471 - Queencats vs Four
77472 - Profs vs Girls

I could go through the 18 games of the Four and the Queencats and recalculate if people are raelly, really that concerned.

There's a slim possibility that it might continue to pique my curiosity as to how on earth the error crept in. That's my OCD for you.

The obvious cause would be counting a Four vs Queencats result twice - but I put the brainoffs into numerical order to avoid that.

Back on deck after a cold laid me low. Want to thank the other Queencats for another fun time. We came, we saw and we conquered!

We did too conquer - look even Doc says we won 2 games - that's a conquer in my books :)

I had OCD once but I ate it - was delicious !

The results are correct now. If anyone cares to check my workings then feel free to ask and I'll send you the details.

I've still no idea how it happened but it seems like one of the matches between the Four and the Queencats was counted twice. As the Four won both matches that means that they had 1 win (2 points) more than they should have.

They don't now.

Apologies for the inconvenience (particularly to the Fantastic Four).
