Mr Ferdinand has decided to fight racism by forming a "black players union". Doesn't this make him a racist ??

Any thoughts ??

I would say it does. No doubt about it.

I would like to know why we have a Congressional Black Caucus and an NAACP and we have NOTHING! We are being discriminated AGAINST.

Who is this fellow Ferdinand?

The idea of a black player's union (Federation of Black Players) has been mooted but not by Ferdinand. He's been linked to it in the press but has downplayed his involvement.

Despite being called the Federation of Black Players (or at least that being the working name), the union would be open to players from all ethnic backgrounds - so there's no issue of discrimination there.

So, no, I wouldn't say that, on current evidence, Rio Ferdinand is racist. I would say, however, that someone really needs to come up with a better name if they're serious about the union being open to players of all ethnic backgrounds.

We have all sorts of black stuff over here. I'm no expert but to me it does seem divisive. We even allow songs on the radio about fighting the white man. I thought we had come further than that.

Can you tell me what you mean by "black stuff" Ajax?

I am sure it's innocuous, but still, I gotta ask.

Oh yes. Black stuff. Stuff what is black. :D

No, black TV shows, black awards. All sorts of separatist stuff. No yellow ones or white ones. There is a show called Living Black. Could you imagine one called Living White? Why not Living Together or Living in Australia. It is something that I don't understand.

We had a show over here called "In Living Color" that was staffed and performed by African Americans. Does that count?

I don't think the intention is the same. Actually, race relations in Australia is something I read a lot about but find myself no wiser or any better informed afterwards. I'm moving to China.

It's called "upbringing" and race relations in that context are not advised........especially in Australia.

"Egalitarianism" is another word. Students of Australian History hear this word all the time.

Then there is another word..........."reality".

Ajax is correct. It is acceptable to have all black programs but leave a black character out of a white show and everyone freaks out. There is no equality in that way. I don't care if blacks want to have their own shows but I don't get the feeling that black want to assimilate into a general population which includes all races. Unless they do they will never have equity. Sorry but that is the truth. Everyone has to be just PEOPLE!

Southshoregirl, you have presented a rather chicken vs. egg argument on race. Why would blacks want to assimilate into a general population if equity in that population is impossible? I agree that people should just be people, but we are far from that, sadly.
While I think the Ferdinand brothers are enjoying their anti-racism limelight a little much, I see nothing wrong with a Black Players Union. Have any of you heard some of the awful chants against black players (for a recent example, Lazio fans started some pretty heinous cheers aimed at Jermain Defoe a couple of weeks back)? Until things like that go away, organisations like the NAACP have every right to exist, as an unfortunate but necessary protection against racism.

Racism aside, I have to say that I am ecstatic to have found a site based on factual competitions, truly a nerd-dream come true. Kyle here, by the way.

The issues that have become topical recently namely Suarez, Terry and now Clattenburg have been with us since time began. It will take more than what is in place at present to correct the cancer in the game of soccer for the benefit of all involved players, fans etc.

The game on Sunday was spoiled by several petulant overpaid individuals who at first glance appear to have taken out their failures on an easy target namely the referee.

If Mark Clattenburg made racist comments (which I very much doubt) then he should receive the full punishment such behaviour deserves, if however he has not then the authorities should take the opportunity to make examples of the accusers and their club and dock them points and not fine them paltry pittances which hardly dent their bank balances.

nerds ?? do we do nerds ?? I know we do geeks, hundreds of them. are nerds a sub species or a separate entity ?? we may have to convene a committee to allow this !!

If Clattenberg gets fined or suspended I shall refuse to watch anymore Premiership. A small protest I know but this is going too far.

Go to wiki to see "nerd" and "geek"..... Sometimes interchangeable, I guess.....and in part may apply to all of us ....e.g., I looked up geek and nerd even though I know damn well what they mean!!!!!!!!😜. (It is no doubt nerdy/geeky to use these smiley faces, but I don't care.) My children used to say I am weird, which I didn't like and told them to look it up; they came back and said, "OK, you are " strikingly odd!" I liked that better.

Game 2 or round 2 starts with Chelsea FC amending the evidence they first presented to the world on Sunday concerning what was said to whom by the referee. Well jmaxg will be pleased evidence being tampered with - get CSI they will solve it in 50 minutes.

As for tonite's game no pressure on the referee then.

Let's here it for a referee who used common sense in a game which highlighted all that is good in the game of soccer. To all who are not in the picture I am talking about Lee Masons (the referee) performance in the Capital Cup game involving Chelsea and Manchester United.

Good game to watch......

This is late, BBandicoot, but I don't think equity is impossible. I think any man or woman of any color can acheive anything they want to acheive. There is no reason for any person to be left out or behind. If blacks want to rise to the highest level of any field they have shown they can. I know nothing about the situation of which you speak in sport but I am just thinking how incredibly wealthy some black athletes are!

I love your name, Kyle. Yes, we are all crazy here. I am probably the most insane. I am definitely the site's worst typist.
