It is hard to believe it has been 60 months since that Friday October 13th, a Friday the 13th, when I came across a link called Factacular.com. I had done a lot of surfing of the internet since dipping my toe in back in 1997 but I had never really chatted or interacted with people online up till that point. Email was the main way I connected until that Friday in October.

Facta wasn't all that it is today and all that it has become since it started some 7 or 8 yrs ago. For sure the same Shakespeare topics with the Richards and Henrys and what not were here. The Count placed them here upon founding I suspect to baffle everyone who, like me has never taken the time to go back and read, for the first time, or reread each of those historical plays. He was the inspiration of a certain Java Jive destined to become the Bataan Death March of will Factalarians of the future.

The most vivid memory I have of that early time here on Factacular was the warmth of Cazza and Tea Bag in getting to know me. The both were I discovered, Aussies and had a totally different time clock from Midwest America.

Guiness John in the British Isles was also a character of legend back then too. He frowned on us saying thank yous or making insincere comments.

This international flavor was enhanced by Charles III and Loris and RUI, and Timothy, the expat Canadian living in The Czech Republic. To the north Skyrider and caro became friends of mine and I had wonderful chats with each of them.

The domestic group of friends opened up too. I met such a wonderul group of New Yorkers including Wabzy, Diana, maralyn, Wicksie. In the other parts of the US, cack, the first true Facta legend for me was very nice, and she still is. All of us sat their astounded when she was at 10000 Facts known in about 3 months while the rest of us were still in triple digits.

The wonderful, learned gentleman from Michigan saguingora inspired me to develop many topics and to learn so much from him about wines, and culture and a universe of ideas I had never known. Thanks, Sag, for all you have done in your years here too.

The cutups like kevg and jmax and Uss Palladin were those boys in the back of the classroom. They never aspired to the heights of fact knowledge but certainly had thoughts on so many situations and thoughts.

Disco Stu, what can one say about you, a gift, beyond compare in all of your help and friendship and giving over these years.

Personally, I think the inspiration and the challenge to build Factacular and contribute topics and facts to Factopedia sets Factacular on a level I will never reach in any other part of the internet. Working alone and in unison with others to discover interesting trivia, dates, people, events. geography, time measurement, scientific concepts, language equivalents, slang from our far flung outposts of English.

All of these are the lasting legacies that so many of the Contributors have poured freely, without request or payment into the loving hands of the editors, like rodbox. Jus, JMK, javalin and Tom Price, The Count himself to build into the facts of the Daily Brainoff, the 10 categories of Factopedia and all the tournaments we enjoy today.

I am proud to have thought up The Decathlon and that Stu and others could develop it into the premier monthly event it continues to be for all those who enjoy it.

I have loved kev's idea of a pub tournament he thought of that is known as the Kevvie and to my wonderful teammates I have worked with especially my long time buddies Lucy and Maureen and Bonzashelia.com/Athene who let me be a star in creating wonderful themes for our team each Kevvie.

Five years, it is hard to believe all of the life I have lived in just these five years! Probably the most productive, intellectual five years of my life.

I have branched out into Facebook, as many of you have and enjoy friendships and sharing there too. But Factacular is and will always be a special place, a special experience that has touched me as no other site ever could.

Thanks to all of you for allowing me to get to know you, and love you and become a part of your lives. May we still be here in another 5 years and growing and giving and living even more wonderfully.

Thank you for your kind words, Allan. Indeed, you are a gentleman.
I believe that you joined Factacular 6 days before me. I, too, have found the site to be very useful to keep the old grey matter functioning. I wish you and Factacular many more years together, along with me too, of course.
Pax.

Despite your skewed interpretation, we are who you say we are.

And that's why we will remain a constant influence in all our lives.

(Facebook I can ignore, this place I can't)

Happy Anniversary Allan.

I appreciate each of your comments above. We all have a place here. We all value the time and the effort we have invested here. Where else have people given so much of themselves to make such a site as this as wonderful, as fun, as enjoyable, and as enriching as it is? Thanks everyone. I truly love you for the unique persons God has made each of you and I feel that love and respect you show in the many ways you have shown it over these months and years. May we continue to work together, laugh together and share together the riches of knowledge, humor and a common bond of friendship for years to come.

Happy Fact birthday, Allan!! I never realized that back then I did 10000 in three months!!! I was truly addicted!! I remember sitting for 8 hrs straight and my feet swelling from hardly moving!!! Ha, what days those were!!!!! At times, I was so tired, I would lay my head down on my arm on the desk and still play until finally I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore!!!!!! I was doing marathons and trying to beat myself in total time spent at one sitting!!!! Has anybody else been like that at one appoint??? Finally, due to some kind of computer glitch, I couldn't log on, and that slowed me down. Wonderful to know you all, and when I do log on, it feels like home to me. Though, since I took a full time job, my time on Fact has diminished. It still is such an enjoyable site!!! Thanks for the memories.
Cack (Kathy)

Thanks Jon! A Facta inspired memory also was our Virtual Regatta race connected to the Vendee Globe Yacht Race in 2008. Those nearly two months of tacking, turning, catching a wind, finding our way south from France, East to Africa and around the cape and that endless journey east to South America via Australia. Was such a fun time with you Mr USS Palladin, except perhaps crawling homeward from the tip of South America back to France. Only via Factacular would I have known you and shared this experience with you. And of course our Wii Golf experience later with jmaxg, JMK, javalyne, javier and the others. So many connections, Factacular has inspired and fostered for me and others worldwide beyond the brainoffs, the tournaments and all we see here at Factacular.com

I am thinking of re-doing the Wii golf tournament (with Java's permission)......but this time structured toward an actual result.

You know.....an actual winner and place-getters, n' stuff like that.

Javier will probably beat us all to death but whatever. Whadaya think Allan?

Would love to get back into it, Jmax. It was fun in the two versions we used and as long as the one we all have still works on Wii it would be super to resume. Keep me posted.

Ok first you have to use google chrome.

Download that and install.

Then go to the Chrome Web store.

Go to games. Download and install WGT Golf.

Set up an account.

Don't pay to play, you have buy points to get better clubs but we will only play with the clubs given to us!

Let me know if you need help or when you are ready.

Warning: Putting is very, very hard on this game. :-)
