Some of you may have noticed a few changes to the site recently. While all this flurry of activity is happening it is a good time to take a look at what changes we would like to see happen to the Daily Brainoffs? Not promising your ideas will be implemented but your ideas will certainly be considered.

So what do you want? There has been a lot of moaning about the Geobrainoff so would you prefer something else such as a random Geography category challenge, like the ones you get in the Decathlon.

What about some on other categories - Science & Nature, Music, Movies, Sports etc? I know I would like Language and Science and Nature and maybe Arts & Lit and maybe History.

We probably need to keep a limit on how many there are so if you are suggesting something new you probably need to say what you don't want to keep. I am pretty certain the Daily Brainoff should be kept but what about the biobrainoff which often ends up being repetitive or has some strange questions in it. Do you still want the Mystery subject? What about the random subjects?

Let us know what you think.

I'm good with the Mystery subject and the other stuff. I never play the geo or famous person brainoffs as they are repetitive. Maybe a transport section (trains planes and automobiles).
The problem with a lot of the Factopedia is that so much of it is obscure but one man's meat is another man's wtf. How abou a panel to go thru the lot and grade the questions ?? I volunteer, cos I've got time on me hands, another 2/3/4 people and we could come up with something.

I don't play the bio or the mystery country anymore for the same reasons kev states.

Mystery subject is always fun and challenging.

Randoms in each category everyday? Rather than specific categories? Do this and it might take some of the thunder away from the decathlon.

I would leave the questions alone, somebody has gone to a lot of work to contribute, the editors have put it in, so they should stay. You have to take the good an the bad.

For those of you who don't play certain daily brainoffs because they're repetetive, could you give your thoughts on whether you think they're worth keeping as being of interest for new players?

No, I really wouldn't keep either one of them, I don't think they are much of a draw.

A daily Geo random would be of more interest but I like Geo so I am biased.

Arts and Literature and Music could have a daily random as far as I am concerned. You find a section dedicated to the above in almost every daily newspaper and monthly periodical.

There could be three daily randoms drawn from three of the ten Decathlon subjects, plus three more targeted brainoffs from the topics within that subject. This would give six brainoffs per day, then top it off with a complete and utter random like the current Daily Brainoff to give seven brainoffs as at present.

What the three subjects are each day could be selected randomly or by following a strict rota.

Just an idea.

I do like Nemesis's proposal - great idea.

I like the mystery brainoff - and then dip into the subject ones if they interest me.

A brainoff off on sport rather than a particular sport, or geography instead of a country etc would be better

re Stu's question about new players. It is possible that they will entice new players but after a week we will need more new players as the others get bored with same quiz over and over. Agree with Sal Geo quiz that is random may be better, famous people mix may be good. Just have to take our chance if we've ever heard of the famous people !!

If possible I'd like to see some kind of cumulative rankings on the Daily (if it's kept as is)...such as Dailies Played, Dailies Won, Total Points in Dailies, or something like that. Seems to me that would keep people coming back to it regularly.

I just like the mystery topic and avoid the geo and person. I think the category idea JMK mentioned was appealing.

My friend would like to join Factacular, but he is unable to join, because every time he tries, he gets an error message: “Invalid Userfullname”. Could you please enlighten me on this matter? Thank you.

One thing to watch is not double clicking when you enter a challenge or it thinks you have completed. If this is not the case then can you pm me with details - is it every challenge? Just dailies? Link from email or home page? Which browser. Hopefully we can get this sorted for you.

Sorry Schotzy - we're aware of that problem and will be looking into getting it fixed as soon as possible.

Well, with a bit of luck "as soon as possible" means "about 6 hours". I've just made a few updates and hopefully you should now be able to play challenges even if you double-click the links.

There's no need, for that, by the way. A single click will do the job. It shouldn't be a problem if you do double-click - I'm just trying to save your energy. :)

Right folks...changes...

I've not exactly gone along with Nemesis' suggestions for reasons that may become clearer in the fullness of time. I've done a minor shake-up though.

The mystery country and biobrainoffs are not gone but they won't appear daily. They'll crop up randomly from time to time. When they aren't randomly appearing, you'll get a category-based brainoff (Music, Arts & Literature etc) instead.

There'll be a few other random surprises from time to time too. Hopefully, it'll stop you getting bored and keep you on your toes.

sounds good. adding a few more would be nice. or splitting into 12 hour intervals instead of 24. 2 sets of brainoffs instead of one. & for xmas a new model train;)

More? More? But if there were more, people wouldn't spend as much time challenging each other.

I'd rather work out ways of encouraging that really...

well that'd be nice as well. i used to send out my own version of nightlies. seems few people would reciprocate, except for JMK & Java. even had people ask me to not send em to them anymore, so concluded that some may be annoyed by this, though don't know why. it can get old, but seems if we had those volunteer their names that wanted to be included, then we could rotate & have each person send challenges on their assigned day (those interested could vote on a reasonable number of brainoffs).

anyway that's some of my thought on it albeit coming from a semi-retired person in their 60's that probably has too much time on hand;)
