Trevor Gordon Bannister -- 14 August 1934 – 14 April 2011 -- English actor best known for playing the womanising junior salesman Mr. Lucas in the sitcom Are You Being Served? from 1972 to 1979, and for his role as Toby Mulberry Smith in the longest-running sitcom Last of the Summer Wine, from 2003 until it ended its run in 2010
Timothy (Tim) Hetherington -- 1970 – April 20, 2011 -- British-American photojournalist. He was best known for his documentary film Restrepo, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2011.
Sidney Lumet -- June 25, 1924 – April 9, 2011 -- American director, producer and screenwriter with over 50 films to his name. He was nominated for the Academy Award as Best Director for 12 Angry Men (1957), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Network (1976) and The Verdict (1982) though never won an indivdual award despite 14 of his films being nominated.
Mike Campbell --- d. 6 April 2011, aged 78 -- White farmer who challenged the legality of farm reforms in Zimbabwe, family stated death was due to complications having been tortured by supporters of Robert Mugabe in 2008.
Edward Stobart -- 21 November 1954 – 31 March 2011 -- British haulage company owner who first became involved with his father's company in the 1960s and subsequently expanded it into one of the UK's most well known multimodal logistics companies, Stobart Group.
Diana Wynne Jones -- 16 August 1934 – 26 March 2011 -- British writer, principally of fantasy novels for children and adults, as well as a small amount of non-fiction. Some of her better-known works include the Chrestomanci series and the novels Howl's Moving Castle and Dark Lord of Derkholm.

She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for 'Butterfield 8' (1960)and 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' (1966) played the title role in 'Cleopatra' (1963). Taylor also championed HIV and AIDS programs.

Henry Cooper--Boxer--3 May 1934 - 1 May 2011--3 Lonsdale Belts outright, British and European Heavyweight Champion. Best known for knocking down Cassius Clay (Mohammed Ali) in 1963 with his left hook, Henry's Hammer. Clay was in severe trouble until his glove mysteriously split while in his corner, allowing him another minute to recover. Cooper controversionally lost his titles to Joe Bugner in a fight only the referee thought Bugner won and retired.

Ted Lowe--Snooker commentator--1 November 1920 – 1 May 2011-- Whispering Ted was the voice of snooker from late 60's up to 2005. "and for those of you who are watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green." which makes sense to those who know the game but he never surpassed that remark !!
