Hi everyone! I'm really sorry to post this here, I've been trying to find a way to get hold of Count Factacular privately, but with no joy.

I just wanted to let you all know about some courses that are full of useful info and facts that the Open University has made freely available. You can check out the selection here http://www.open.ac.uk/openlearn/home.php

PLease don't think I'm trying to spam your forums, we charge nothing for this material; I'm just trying to spread the word!

Anyway, hope it's of use to you!

stuart - that looks pretty good so thanks. watching rubbish like the mint and other mindnumbing money spinning pseudo gameshows makes you remember how good the OU was - brown tank tops and all.

Thanks! Glad you like the material. It's funny you should mention the OU / BBC stuff because the openlearn project is really an extension of that original open content philosophy.
The OU is still involved in making a lot of programmes, they're just in a different format now. BBC progs like `Coast', `What the Romans did for us', and `Cimate Change' are all OU / BBC collaborations - there are still plenty of tank tops wandering around campus thoough :)

i love the concept of the OU - any learning is probably a good thing to misquote a pope. its funny how things have changed - things like coast and what the romans did for us. love the premise of coast - although anyone walking it wouldnt have a bloody brolly and what the... has been knackered by ahd doing tax adverts which puts most people off. erm, which campus is that - i dodnt realise milton keynes had a campus.

well, when i say `campus' it isn't a campus with OU undergrads living here (although they frequently visit to use the library), but the majority of our academics are here and there are c. 4,000 OU staff situated in MK. There are also 13 regional centres around the country - and others in Europe. We're the largest university in the UK - over 150,000 students!

I always reckon you lot have an unfair advantage on University Challenge. Four grizzled veterans who're doing an extra degree to round off their lives as established librarians, rocket scientists and brain surgeons to trounce some spotty oiks who've been dragged out of the SU bar to look young and clueless.

quite possibly! we were tied with one of the oxford colleges (magdalen I think), but they've gone ahead now. I don't think there has been an OU entry for a number of years now.

ive always fancied a bit of the OU meself. apparently the summer camps are full of librarians and young ladies wishing to improve themselves. well, i could improve their techniques, particularly in one of those student bedrooms that only have a single bed. right, off to buy a tank top and a large brown tie with a windsor knot (sorry stuart its impossible to resist - im going to have a look and im sure many of the other factacualrians)
