While on this site i got to a quiz on american football teams
Q: Which city do the Lions play for?
A: Detroit
Difficulty 1
Q: Which NFL team Drafted Heisman Trophy winners in 2 Consequtive seasons?
A: Detroit Lions
Difficulty 2
Now this is just an example but you see what i'm sayin. Same topic same answer more difficult question hence the higher rating. I hope someone reads this, i will leave more examples as i find them

Another idea I do the quiz on heads of state
Q: Head of state for Japan
Possible answers:
King Ralph
Prince Jon
President Dave
Emperor Liu Kang
I dont know the answer but Liu Kang is the most (only) Japanese sounding therefore i get it right. Make the choices harder if i seen, Liu Kang, Chun Li, Yao Ming and Jet Li I prolly would'nt have guessed right. THE NAMES ARE EXAMPLES NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY

I know 1540 facts, how many on the first try?second?third?
and maybe a way at the results page to denote wheter it was a "wild guess" and u got it right.

I Love this site the way it is, I work 50 hours a week where my job duty is "How can we do this better" and "What else can we do" I'm sorry my mind is stuck in that mode.

Never underestimate the experience of unbounding joy one can get for the lucky wild guess of correct on a quiz.
Part of the charm of the site I would say. :-)

As to rating for difficulty. I am not particularly for it but that is just me.

As to the answers, well, as I understand it, not too much can be done about that as it has to do with the program that the editors use to enter in the new facts as they are submitted by the contributors. Changing the program would involve a great deal of work and at the present time the owner of the site chooses to spend the time with his family.

Enjoy, glad to see you are having a good time.

I am sure he is skip (enjoying the site), but ain't he sayin'.....

Of the Emperors of Japan, you picked:

Ota Shempora

And then, if you got it right, something that says "difficulty rating two".

My question is.....why?

You got it right. Isn't that enough?

What we have to keep in perspective here is what the owner of the site can be reasonably be expected to adjust.

Adjusting so the site says "congratulations. you got a level 4 answer"?

I would seriously suspect the owner of boredom if he or she had enough time to do that.

The problem I see is that 'difficulty' is subjective. That would raise a whole new crop of complaints. But hey. I can ignore those as well.

Keep at it, though, robert. I'm sure there are things that you can think of that the rest of us haven't.

I suppose I really shoulda said that, huh scratch.

*jmax kicks himself......cracks knee in the process....ouch!

Sorry robert, yes, as scratch said, you keep thinking outside the box like that. Just remember to keep in mind the practicality issues.

:-)

well i dont think the site should change. I just suggest that you can have harder questions with the same answer in many topics.
example
in the topic multiplication the questions are 1x3 4x5 6x10
THATS LEVEL 1
16x12 23x54 64x2x4
LEVEL 2
just something more challenging no reward or special denotation.
I' m not talking about difficulty for the current topics i'm talking about revising a topic to challenge us. I dunno fugit

Oh...I see....create aligned subjects that have different difficulty levels.

Then, just choose the subject with the difficulty rating of your choice.

So the subjects would appear in the factopedia as:

Multiplication - Level One
Multiplication - Level Two
Multiplication - Level Three

....and so on.

Might be ok for a few subjects.......but I think editors might have a heart attack at the thought of it. That would probably require quite a bit of re-organising.

It's hard to distinguish the difficuilty level, since you can't be sure wheater the question would appear in X-Y or Y-X format!
Also the answer choices for each question are not always the same, they are randomly chosen according to the levels of sameness of the answer.

I like your suggestion Robert, but I don't think it will fit in Facta.

FYI - you can force the quiz to always ask the question the same way (x->y or y->x) for example in the true-false.
But the it is ALWAYS going to ask the same way.

So for a question whose answers are years, the same years will be shown each time the question is on?

Not quite. I mean that we can set it so that of the two questions (x -> y and y -> x) that only one would be used ever.
That is how the True/False quizzes work - the question is always "True or false...?" not ever "which of these things is true...?".

ok, robertsfugate. Do I finally get it?

rate the topic - not the question.
the rating could be in the factopedia.
contributors can rate the topics.
and then.... maybe...
you can choose a random quiz with a difficulty rating of 1 or 5 and then only questions from topics rated at that level would be selected.

Scratch, the thing about that is difficulty ratings are subjective, and also vary by geography. "US State Capitals" might be easy for someone from the US, but difficult for a New Zealander, for example.

See? That would be easy for you and difficult for almost everyone else. Just like DiscoStu would have an easy time with Martial Arts, but it would be difficult for most other players.

But then, there may be some king of rating with stars (like there is on other sites), and each player can rate the difficulty of the subject with stars - 1 being the easiest and 5 the hardest. And maybe there would be like percentage 4,25; 3.76 etc.

Maybe someone will vote with 1 star, but maybe more people will rate the subject with 5 stars.

Just my point.

I agree, K. More than one person would rate a topic (hopefully) and then we'd get an approximate average of what the regular players think of a topic.
Or maybe you can't rate it until you have learned a certain percentage of the facts in it.

There would be various ratings for a scale 1-5. And percentage would be great.
