The eagerly anticipated eighth and final series of Game of Thrones starts in just a couple of weeks.  To get you back into the world of Westeros and wondering who will get to sit on the Iron Throne at the end of the epic tale, I have added a new category in Entertainment:

http://www.factacular.com/subjects/Game_of_Thrones_-_Houses

Simply match the characters to their Houses.  Have fun!

I only started watching about a year ago when I was given the box set of the first seven series as a present.  Now I’m a total addict and am currently working through the sixth book (Tyrion is on his way to Volantis).  Great stuff!

read all the books (wouldn't recommend anything past the first couple) and seen all the shows, eagerly awaiting the final series. Although there is some trepidation about which of my favourite characters they will kill off.

Thanks for the subject Nemesis.

Same as me until a year ago.  There’s still time to watch 67 episodes before next Sunday though.

Agree with JMK about the books! I liked the first trilogy then he starts a bit of a Tolkein imitation.

I need to do some catch up on the last couple of seasons before next Sunday!

The books and TV start to divulge more and more and I have no clue who is where at the moment.

"Tolkien imitation"?  Vosecchi!  Does merely having dragons and magic make it an imitation?
Seriously though, constant comparisons are made between the two writers and Martin himself addresses some of these in an interesting Rolling Stone article (he very much admired Tolkien and acknowedges his influence) but as critics and analysts have pointed out both writers have taken a very different approach to their subject matter. Which is also very different. While Martin has been referred to as the American Tolkien, he can well stand on his own merits.
Perhaps the TV series has muddied the waters a little. Season 6 had caught up with the books and poor George, writing as fast as he could, was really struggling to keep up. Apparently this was with the series in mind which may have affected things somewhat.

Whatever the case may be, if it's not your thing then don't pay it any attention but if you're a fan like me, I hope you enjoy the last season as much as I know I will.

Frakhas Valad!

I don't know if he could ever have finished even without the TV show. He was burning out on the series and taking forever to write then before the show started.

So many good characters. I'm rooting for Arya to kill everyone.

Rooting against Jon Snow!

Sansa has grown on me the most.

I think Peter Dinklage is hilarious but Tyrion annoys me.

Is that red lady gone in the show? She drove me nuts.

Honestly the only thing that would make me really sad would be bad things happening to the dragons.

I LOVE DRAGONS

PS My friend is still holding out hope for Lady Stoneheart. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN I keep telling him.

I loathe the Red Lady character. I like Tyrion, Daenerys, Arya, Brienne of Tarth, Jon Snow and the dragons. Not so fussed on Sansa. I like Cersei as a character even though I want to see her utterly defeated.

Agree completely about Cersei. Fantastic character who absolutely deserves whatever demise is coming her way. Brienne is great. I like the hound too.

Cersei deserves to be locked up in a small room in Flea Bottom and to have ravens bring daily updates on the happy marriage of Jaime to Brienne of Tarth and the subsequent births of their many children.

It doesn’t seem like Melisandre (the Red Priestess) would be much of a problem if someone pinches her Choker of Youth.

If I could fly people to safety on a dragon I would take Varys, Arya, Tormund, Jorah Mormont, Davos Seaworth, Brienne, Sandor Clegane (although Arya would probably try to kill him), Tyrion, Jaime(can’t help it, I just like him), Greyworm and, if there’s room, Sansa.

I’m 50/50 on whether Lady Stoneheart will put in an appearance but I’m wondering if we’ll find out what happened with Gendry.

Last but not least - there’s a baby on the way!!

I predict cersie will die - she has to. It is rumoured she is pregnant and there is a foretelling that she will die by the hand of one of her children. As they are all dead she has to have another one to kill her.

Certainly not a rumour, she did more than hint! Unless she is lying, she and Jaime are about to become parents for the fourth time.
If Jon and Daenerys' hanky panky results in a child also there might be a slightly boring red rose white rose style ending.

Also, when in comes to Game of Thrones, it's not whether or not you die. It's if you're brought back to life, and how, that really matters.

I can see Cersei coming to grief at the hands of the Mountain in some way.  An ambiguous order backfiring?

Doesn't seem that likely. Unless it turns out to be Arya doing things Faceless Man style. They do happen to be two of the remaining people on her list.

Winter is here.

Fittingly it is snowing like crazy here in Chicago.

Is that a white walker I see?

Who has watched the first episode?  Only one violent death - but you certainly get the impression that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is on borrowed time!

Wonder if Elizabeth I was watching this she would be saying "Now there's a girl after my own heart!"
Pretty sure her sister would be.

Ok - this is where I say farewell for a few weeks.  I plan to avoid all the new GoT episodes and then binge watch all of Series 8 at the end.  I managed this for eight years so I figure eight weeks is do-able.

Hands over ears and la-la-la-la-la-la!

Did you say something, BB? I can only hear somebody going la-la-la-la-la-la!

I had a similar plan to Nem's but unfortunately they don't make earplugs powerful enough to muffle the blabbermouths in my neck of the woods.

My oldest daughter was furious as by the time she got home from work lots of her friends had posted things on Facebook.

Was broadcast mid morning here.

Caught up on episodes one and two, can't wait for #3.
Favourite quote that doen't give away anything:
Q: "What do dragons eat?
A: "Anything they want."

Have seen an alternate answer:
"Most of the CGI budget".

The sex scene mid episode 2 had me consulting Mrs Google trying to work out her age - satisfied she was “legal” my a used hubby then pointed out I was trying to apply reason to a fantasy that has had no morals from the first screening.  Hmmmm - I hate it when he’s right!
