Welcome to the Watch Your Language Tournament

Consider yourself a language whiz?
Is language your forte?
Is your thesaurus your best friend?
Do you recite the dictionary in your sleep?
Are you an enigmatic etymologist or a recovering logoleptic?
Do you play ‘Name that Obscure Word’ at parties?
Does your spoon collection contain more spoonerisms than cutlery?
Or do you just want a bit of fun?
If you answered yes to any of the above, then this is the tournament for you.
The Watch Your Language Tournament will commence on Monday 28th January. The aim is to send challenges at around 9:30am UTC but could be a few hours either side depending on my other commitments.
The rules are listed below. To take part, simply post “I’m in” in this thread. Sign-up closes 7am 28th January UTC

GENERAL RULES AND INFORMATION

Competition will consist of six (6) different Language subject brainoffs of 10 questions being sent everyday for five days - a total of 30 different Language subjects. You will receive brainoffs from ‘Tournament’. Only the Tournament Organiser and her Partner have knowledge of the subjects to be sent. However a quick look at last year's tourney will give you a few clues Hopefully there will be something to suit everyone.

The competition will be an individual one but you will be playing in groups in a similar manner to the Decathlon. The individual with the highest cumulative total wins. A progressive Results Table will be posted in a public forum. In the case of a tie The Tournament Organiser or her Partner will send three (3) specific subject brainoffs to break the tie. Awards will be given at the end of the tournament for whatever takes the fancy of Tournament Organiser and her Partner.
Just to make it interesting!
We will be running a rally comp alongside the Language tournament. If you sign up for the Language Tournament you will be automatically entered in the rally comp, although if you don't play it won't affect your Language Tournament scores as these will be totally separate.
You will get one rally each day for the five days (if all goes to plan). The winner will be the person with the highest total for the 5 rallies. Scores will not be capped.
Interesting Words
Latin & Greek Word Roots
Collectors
Prefixes
Animal Adjectives

In case the Factacular site hiccups, we will spring into action and resolve issues as soon as the site is up and running and continue with the competition. We do respectfully ask that everyone play their challenges as soon as possible after receiving them --- you will be less likely be affected if the site goes down. We will only replay challenges if the site is down for more than 12 hours on the last day of a challenge. We will not replay for anyone letting the challenge time out or for minor site glitches. If you drop through a challenge with no score recorded at all (not even a 0 ) let me know so I can fix it for you.
The Tournament Organiser volunteers her own time, so have some patience with the resolution of any problems that you may encounter and expect that there may be delays in the immediate posting of results as these are updated manually. Please send a private message to JMK if you encounter problems or discrepancies. Decisions made by Tournament Organiser are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
So…
Invite other members to come and play! Let’s see a spirit of fun and lots of friendly comments in the brainoffs. Remember - it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.
