Signup for the team golf event next week!

It is going to be a wild ride with a few different game types.

Sign up will close over the weekend.

For this one I'm just going to separate you into two teams by join date.

More info to come ASAP, needed to get the signup up :).

Hope to see a lot of people! Has an epic two team battle ever been a Facta Tourney before?

this is what I have so far... Let me know if you have ideas for other formats! Or tweaks to mine :).

Solheim Cup

Two teams will be competing in multiple different formats. Each brainoff will count as 1 point in the Cup table, with ties resulting in ½ point for each team. The team with the highest point total at the end of the tournament will win the Cup.

For this tournament, the time limit will be 48 hours. There will be no need to finish in time to create the next days groups.

I will attempt to enlist one player from each team to be a “playing captain”, who just like in the real Ryder/Solheim cup, will set their team’s lineup for the day.

Formats:

Best Ball - Only the best score (highest brainoff/lowest golf) will count for each team.

Scramble - . Worst score for each team will be dropped, team with lowest cumulative golf score wins.

Match Play - Head to head. The best golf score wins.

Four Ball - Teams of 2. Best golf score wins the hole.

Middle Ball - Teams of 3. Only the middle score will count for each team.

All Formats will use the golf scoring system:

Condor: 2500 (-4)

Albatross: 2250-2499 (-3)

Eagle: 2000-2249 (-2)

Birdie: 1500-1999 (-1)

Par: 1000-1499 (+0)

Bogey: 500-999 (+1)

Double Bogey: 250-499 (+2)

Triple Bogey: 1-249 (+3)

Quadruple Bogey: 0 (+4)

Penalty: Not Playing within 48 hours (+5)

@Ruby I let the women into the Open so I must let the men into the Solheim. May see some kilts if Sally has her way.

I have updated the second post a bit with some of the formats and rules for this one:

Two teams will be competing in multiple different formats. Each brainoff will count as 1 point in the Cup table, with ties resulting in ½ point for each team. The team with the highest point total at the end of the tournament will win the Cup.

Match Play - Head to head. The best golf score wins.

Middle Ball - Teams of 3. Only the middle score will count for each team.

Let me know if you have any other ideas :)

Amazing that Phil and Allan joined hours apart! Kudos to so many for longevity.

The list so far has me thinking Team OG's vs. Team Newcomers would be interesting, cutting it off somewhere between 2007/2008...

Just noticed looking at the list: Congratulations Thaibob on your 6 year Factacular join-iversary!

@Chooky you're in! I'm going to give it a day or two more, then I have to set up the teams and hopefully get a couple volunteer captains ;) .

Anybody have an opinion/idea/preference for how the teams should be divided?

I still like Old Guard vs. Newcomers, seems the closest to fair breakdown I can see. I can't find a way to make a breakdown by country fair. Even vs. Odd also looks scary at the moment.

How about a Pro-Am type of thing with teams that have a mix of "ablilties" (for want of a better term)? A browse through Nem's Decathlon stats would probably give you a fairly good idea about who might fit in where.

@Chooky I think you've just created the next Facta Golf tournament. A Pro-Am with teams of two decided by average golf scores so far: best average would be paired with worst, all the way to the middle two being teamed. I'm hesitant to use the Decathlon stats, as any decision I would make could be seen as subjective.

I was struggling with how to fairly run a handicap-style golf tournament (tallyho's excellent suggestion). You have just solved it for me! A Pro-Am would be perfect. I think I will just use the combined per-hole averages from this tournament and the last one, that way it will be completely objective :).

For the Pro-Am idea, the two teammates scores would be added together to decide the team's score for each hole, and the lowest team over 18 holes would win.

I'm going to close this up in a few hours so we can get the balls rolling.  It may end up being a Handicap Tourney after all (thanks Tally and Chooky for the suggestions!!!).

The way the signup went I can't really figure out a way to break it up in a way that even approaches fairness.

I'll hold out a few more hours. If one more golfer signs up, I will be able to play too ;).

@chooky @tallyho @anybody do you think using the all-time Decathlon average brainoff score would be the best handicapping technique?

Signup is now closed. I have the scores thread here. Please head over and pick team names :). Would also love one volunteer captain per team to help me choose lineups each day (I will PM details, it will be super easy). Otherwise I will be happy to pick them as fairly as possible.
