Are the dailies just not enough quizzes for you? Are you a glutton for punishment? Do you miss the facta cup? Do you relish the chance to unseat the current holder, Nemesis?

JMK has kindly given me permission to attempt to host a trial edition of this once-beloved, oft-maligned, ne'er-forgotten treasure of a factacular classic tournament; so sign up below.

I've copied the old rules for anyone new. I'd like to note that I'm not tied to the old 16 seed rule, I'd rather expand the draw than run a facta plate/mug/etc.  Also, everyone should get to play at least 3 days of challenges, even if they lose 1st round of the knockout. So depending on how many sign up there will be some sort of secondary bracket.

The rules, completely plagiarized:

ORGANISATION AND RULES

After the first day of “all in – all entrants” play, 16 finalists are chosen according to highest cumulative scores and each finalist will pit their wits against another finalist in a “one-on-one” random 10 question challenge in order to try and fight their way through to the next round. During the finals, it's winner take-all (sudden death) so only one player makes it through the competition without a single loss. They become the holder of the Factacular Cup till it is played again.

By the way, the current holder is Nemesis.

Now, pay attention to this next bit……

It is important for the conduct of the overall competition to complete this on time so there will be shorter than usual time frames for challenges. ALL brainoffs will be limited to 24 hours by Factacular.com

The selection round (first day) challenges will be sent at approximately 3.30am GMT on the Monday of the competition. The first knockout challenges will be sent at approximately 4.30am GMT the following day. Subsequent challenges will be sent at varying times depending on when the challenges are completed.

How it works:

• There will be an initial selection round (or "Qualifying Round") where each player will be sent SIX 10 question random brainoffs. Players will have 24 hours to complete these six challenges. These initial round challenges will be sent by the tournament android, FactaCupAdmin.

• At the end of the 24 hours, scores will be gathered and the 16 players with the highest total scores across all 6 challenges, out of all entrants, will proceed to the knockout phase of the competition.

• The scores from the initial selection (qualifying) round will be used to determine the fixtures for the first knockout round, with the player scoring highest in the 16 finalists playing the lowest scorer in the 16 finalists, and the remainder of the players then being allocated their place/opponent in accordance with a pre-determined but standard seeding method.

• If there are sufficient entrants over and above the initial required for the Factacular Cup, then those entrants will be arranged into additional but subordinate competitions or single competition as the case may be.

• Each game within the knockout rounds (day 2 onwards) will be a 24 hour timed, 10 question random challenge. These challenges will be sent by the tournament android, FactaCupAdmin.

• After the first knockout round, challenges will be assigned with no seeding, but in accordance with the tournament results tree which will be displayed prominently within the competition forum.

• The winner of each challenge will go through to meet a new opponent in the next round. In round two there will be eight challengers, round three there will be four and just two in the fourth and final round.

• Any knockout round matches which result in a draw will be replayed until a winner is determined. Replays only will be 20 question random brainoffs and sent by FactaCupAdmin as soon as a tie is discovered. These replays need to be completed as soon as possible and definitely within 24 hours. Posting a message in your brainoff when a tie occurs will speed up this process.

• In case of disputes, the tournament organiser's decision is final.

In case the Factacular site hiccups, either I or JMK will spring into action and resolve issues as soon as the site is up and running and continue with the competition. We do respectfully ask that everyone play their challenges as soon as possible after receiving them --- you will be less likely be affected if the site goes down. We will only replay challenges if the site is down for more than 12 hours. We will not replay for anyone not playing within the 24 hours or for minor site glitches.

The Tournament Organiser volunteers his own time, so have some patience with the resolution of any problems that you may encounter and expect that there may be delays in the immediate posting of results as these are updated manually. Please send a private message to the Tournament Organiser (BBandicoot) if you encounter problems or discrepancies. Decisions made by the Tournament Organiser are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

17! Was going for 16, now I'm going to have to aim for 24. I'm going to send off some last minute invites, should probably get this ball rolling soon.

I'll give it about another day, so JMK has plenty of time to send the initial brainoffs. I'll remind you in the tournament thread; but after the seeding round, I will be sending the brainoff as regular old brainoffs. So do not click on anything from me unless you are ready to compete!

I am leaning more towards a 32 draw with byes if I can get close to 24, with an additional bracket for those who lose before the semifinals (to replace the old Plate). I'd like to add a 3rd place match too.

Feedback is welcome! Also check out my thread in suggestions, would love it if we could figure out a new game or two to run on this wonderful site.

Seeding query:

The standard for the factacular cup is to seed as follows:

1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, 3 vs 14, etc.

Tennis draws currently follow a slightly more random formula,

the first 4 seeds are in the same spots, but #1 could play anyone 13-16, 5-8 would play 9-12, etc.

5-8 could meet any 1-4 in the quarterfinal round.

I think changing it would make the draw a bit more interesting, let me know what you think!

Up to 22. Looks like it will be a 32 draw with byes and a losers' bracket. If y'all prefer the Plate, speak now :).

A few more hours to sign up before initial brainoffs are sent out. Kev we might have to play to make it a perfect 24 if nobody else bites.

Challenges are going out now. You have 24 hours to play. NB sometimes the finishing time on the brainoff may be an hour off so play early to avoid missing the deadline.
Brainoff #3 I forgot to make 24 hours so you have a little leeway on that one but once #6 finishes the scores will be collected.
