If there was a tournament between the Kev and the Decathlon, what should it be?

I thought up a WTF which was basically an overwrought Facta Cup with qualy round ->group stage -> knockout. The group stage had home/away legs with home field (subject choice) advantage.

Though since we have so many existing good (unplayed) tournaments already, why make something worse and more convoluted?

Our fearless leader has granted permission to ATTEMPT something in that gap week, what would you like to see?

I wouldn't mind trying the Facta Cup, or a 2-man team tourney...

I'm working on a tournament format that would be easy to run as a contributer (can't send mass brainoffs)

I think a league format would work well, and be different from any tournaments we've had here before.

My current idea:

WTF (Weekend Tour Factacular)

Entrants would choose 3 home field subjects. On Saturdays and Sundays players will compete against other players in the league one on one. Each player will play one home and one away leg against each other player.  A home leg consists of one 10 question brainoff in each chosen home field subject.  Scoring will be 1 point for each won brainoff. So these will probably finish 2-1 or 3-0. I don't know if ties should be moot or go to the away team yet.  League standings will be based on standard W-L record. Tiebreakers will be away record and maybe brainoffs won?

This should really make it hard to get away wins.  At the end of the league, standings will dictate the seedings for the season ending tournament, everyone will qualify.  This will be in series format, best of 3 each round until the final best of 5. In the tournament it will be random brainoffs, no more home advantage (the tournament will be played at a neutral location).  Tournament could also be a simple knockout in interest of quick completion.

This would be played at a much more leisurely pace than our current tournaments. The league portion could be quarterly or monthly, while the final tournament could be a week/long weekend.

I always think there should be a tourney where we choose a country to represent, too.  This format would work with that idea.

I saw in this sub-forum a couple of you had some other tournament ideas. Especially on 5 week months the schedule could use some filling up. I'd like to hear other tournament ideas!

Helen what was the old two man tourney... the one by join dates? I like that, good for newcomers.

One with one brainoff and putting first with last, etc. would be fun too (didn't we have that as well?)

One with chosen teammates fun too.

The good thing about two-man tournaments is that I can attempt to run those without TOO MUCH supervision.

There are a few open weeks, what kind of two-man tourney would you all like to see the most?

Those ones paired people using ID numbers so those who had been on the site longest were paired with newcomers. Could also have pairs from the same or nearby countries.

@Helen I think you may get your wish of some 2-man tournaments coming up soon!

Also have come up with a Factacular Golf idea. If it gets approved, may see that one shortly as well.

Golf?  My dad played golf!  The kids used to trail their fathers around the course, playing in the rough, while the mums stayed back at the golf club!  At 6 that was great fun - at the BOAC club in The Gambia a huge python used to dwell near the 3rd hole - we kids use to dare each other to find it and poke it with a stick before one of the fathers hauled us off.  None of us ever got eaten - in fact I don’t even remember the python reacting - seemed to coil itself tighter.

Aaah - the memories :)

Used to trail my father around the links too. After a couple duck hooks I always ended up in the creek collecting the rich people's fancy golf balls. I'd end up with 20 pounds of golf balls in my pockets, which was certainly a lot more productive than my golf game.
