Should we consider Zhukov a great WW2 general as he was so profligate with the lives of his troops ?

That apparently is a matter where there is no consensus of opinion. Your thoughts?

A shouter and a bully , not a good never mind great general . Far too happy wasting lives in pursuit of iconic days that matter . We must capture it by Stalin's birthday etc etc. Berlin was prime  example of this but many more.

Surely a shouter and a bully= a great general?

It seems I've rejoined the site just to slightly annoy kev.  I assure everyone, that was not my intention...

Montgomery was a bully , Patton was a shouter , Eisemhower was neither that I know of but he wasn't great general either . My vote goes to Bill Slim , who retook Burma , not Errol Flynn as the movie says .

Your vote for great general or for not great general (or person)? His nickname - Uncle Bill - is a bit chilling considering the recently resurfaced child abuse allegations.
I realise, of course, it's impossible to defend your reputation when you've been dead for 48 years

Nonsense Chooky , look at any picture of him you can see why he was called Uncle Bill . You are the first person I have seen who impugns Slim's reputation

For those who hadn’t heard of Bill Slim allegations https://www.canberratimes.com.au/national/act/william-slim-drive-in-canberra-should-be-renamed-in-the-wake-of-revelations-of-sexual-abuse-victims-say-20180302-h0wwkt.html

As the article says - he may have been a brilliant war hero - but his personal life could possibly be very unheroic like.

As I said first time I have heard these allegations . Strange but true ? No way of knowing , still a bloody good general though .
