This was supposed to be a single post with a list of corrections but the file on my desktop has gone AWOL. If it's OK, I'm just going to post a few at a time as I remember them.
The first two came up in the decathlon.
Science & Nature > Geology - 'Midden means Organic Rich Soil Composed of Biological Refuse'.
Merriam-Webster, Oxford & Dictionary.com all define a midden as 'a dunghill or refuse heap' & Wikipedia as "an old dump for domestic waste which may consist of animal bone, human excrement, botanical material, mollusc shells, sherds, lithics and other artifacts & ecofacts (especially debitage) associated with past human occupation."
The facts in this topic relate to naturally occurring geological features & a midden is a by-product of civilization so, technically, it doesn't really belong. At the very least the definition should be changed to 'Dunghill or Refuse Pile'
Science Nature > Livestock - 'Irish is a breed of Horse'
There is an 'Irish Draught' & an 'Irish Hunter' (both these are included) but no 'Irish'
Movies > Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as well as Movies of the 1960s - 'Karl Madden' should read 'Karl Malden'
History & Mythology > Australian Aboriginal Dream Time Spirits and Beings - There are several problems - First, it should read 'Dreamtime' - one word. Second - and this is pretty important - the text before the facts states:
The term "Koori" is the preferred address of the Australian Indigenous People. "Aborigine/Aboriginal" is regarded by the Koori as too generic. The term originated from the people of Victoria and New South Wales, and has since been accepted by most other indigenous peoples and nations.
None of this is accurate. 'Koori' refers to aboriginal people from Victoria & New South Wales only. It would be really insulting to call a Noongar from the south-west of W.A. a Koori! On the other hand, many indigenous Australians refer to themselves as Aboriginal
The questions are "Which Koori Dream Time Spirit or Being is/are" & "In Koori Dream Time what is"
Could this please be fixed by removing 'Koori' & changing 'Dream Time' to 'Dreamtime'
Geography > Bridges - Jack Dalby Bridge of Happiness -- Estonia ; Andy Dalby Bridge of Laziness -- Germany ; Michael Dalby Bridge of Brains -- India ; Nick Dalby Bridge of Hard Work -- The Philippines.
At some point there must have been a contributor who possessed the surname Dalby & a keen sense of humour. Or a very well travelled, industrious family.
I checked everything with at least one source other than Wikipedia but won't bother listing them unless it's necessary. Sorry this is not very well set out.
