A mixed race breed of cattle which originated in the high valleys of Haute-Savoie, France. The Angeln may have existed for over 5000 years in Germany. Angeln is the northern part of Schleswig-Holstein (near the Danish border). A breed of dairy cattle. Main breeding area is in Groningen (province), Netherlands. The breed has been mentioned as early as the 14th century. Braunvieh (German: "brown cattle") is a breed of cattle originating from Switzerland. Produced by breed Angus Cows to a Chianina or Chiangus bull = 1CA or 1st gen. 2CA Chiangus = the offspring of the 1st cross to a 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen Chiangus sire. Breed developed in New Zealand between 1868 and 1910 by extensive breeding and culling as a cross between Merino with Lincoln or Leicester rams. Used both in the production of wool and meat. The Fonthill Merino was developed in the 1950's in Australia by crossing American-bred Rambouillet Merino rams with a fine-wool Saxon strain of Merino.
