Previously known as The Pelican, The Golden Hind was the first British ship to circumnavigate the globe.
In 1577 Sir Francis, who was famous for being a seaman, explorer and a pirate, was commissioned by Queen Elizabeth to sail around the world. He renamed his ship the Golden Hind.
And for the raid on Spanish shipping. Called the Pelican on the voyage changed to Golden Hind on return. |
